5 Things to Remember When Postponing Your Wedding from Wedding Planner and DWS Founder Peggy Russell

When we left Key West for home after our last wedding in early March we never would have imagined what is now our present coming into fruition-wedding postponements, wedding cancellations, and a whole lot of uncertainty about when things will return to the way they were, or at least some variation of the way things were.  But that being said, we here at Destination Wedding Studio have faith that things will eventually return to some sense of normal.  Destination Weddings in the Keys will happen again.  The Florida Keys will be bustling with tourists.  And Duval street will once again be a place to spectate and celebrate.  So to all of you couples out there that have chosen to postpone your weddings here are 5 things to remember when postponing your wedding to better get you through this time. 1. Remember you still have each other! That in the grand scheme of the long life you will live together, this is but a blip in the story that will be your ‘together’.  Take a moment today to turn to your partner, soak them in, their presence, the gift they are to your life.  Be grateful that you get to do this. Start now to never take the ability to so for granted. 2. Remember practice makes great (we‘re switching this from perfect in our household)! No marriage is without it’s struggles, but how you, together, work through them matters.  Think of this delay as some extra practice, some really really good, extra practice on how together you two will wade through the mud life puts in your way.  And the best thing about mud, it washes...

Top 5 Reasons to Have Your Destination Wedding in the Florida Keys

The Florida Keys continuously remain one of the most popular wedding destinations in the U.S. and with good reason. With a plethora of delectable eateries, charming stores, brilliant colors, both above and below the sea, vibrant nightlife, breathtaking panoramas, and an infinite amount of stories, both told and untold, it truly is unparalleled. Whether you’re driving over one of its many bridges or swaying lazily in a hammock as the ocean lulls you into a mid-afternoon sleep or taking in one of it’s famous sunsets, there is something magical about the Keys that never grows old, which is why the Florida Keys are one of the best, if not the best place to have your destination wedding. It wasn’t easy but here is a list of the top 5 reasons to have your destination wedding in the Florida Keys. #1 – Postcard Ready Everything Becomes a Postcard in the Florida Keys! And we mean everything! From the Conch Houses of old Key West and the Florida Keys to the flora and fauna native to the area to the picturesque and always memorable sunsets, everything in the Keys is the perfect backdrop to your big day. So don’t fret, your pictures are going to be beautiful. They can’t help but not be! #2 – Hassle Free The Florida Keys are hassle free! Contrary to some other destination wedding locales, what we love about the Keys is that they’re like being out of the country without all the hassle to get out of the country. No need to ask your guests to get a passport or pay to renew their passport....

Wedding Styling Tips: Q&A With Peggy Russell

It’s safe to say after 10 years of coordinating and designing weddings that our founder and principal stylist, Peggy Russell, knows a thing or two about weddings.  Yet that didn’t stop her from putting on her travel boots this year to take a mini tour of the U.S. to study with some of the wedding industry’s best.  What most people don’t know initially about Peggy, but what becomes abundantly clear after only a few minutes in her presence, is that she is a lifelong learner, always seeking to expand her circle of influence and inspiration, especially in the creative realm.  So during my last trip to Miami I took the opportunity to sit down for a Q&A with Peggy to ask her about her most recent trip to Charleston, styling, and her newest endeavor – foraging and creating bouquets. Alex: What, if any, was the inspiration behind how you styled your bride? Peggy Russell: For the most part, I am always inspired by a bride’s story and the vision they give me for their wedding day.  However, in this particular instance, it was impossible not to be inspired by the ethereal and timeless beauty of the location, which was a 100 year old property outside of Charleston, South Carolina, so I felt deeply inspired to honor the period of the location.  I picked a dress with clean and simple lines made of raw silk that had a touch of modernity but could have been an heirloom as well.  I also wanted a less busy dress because I really wanted to accent the bride’s florals, which were created by blending an array of both greens, which were foraged from the location, and florals.  I loved the randomness of the...

Intimate Beachside Wedding

This intimate beachside wedding was so much fun to revisit!  Beautiful bride Mackenzie and her now husband Josh met at church after being introduced by Mackenzie’s best friend and well, the rest is history.  They chose Hawks Cay as the stunning backdrop to celebrate their union because Mackenzie’s family has been vacationing there for over 21 years; it’s become their home away from home, so naturally it just seemed like the perfect place to exchange their I do’s.  We couldn’t agree more!  And what made the whole experience that much more idyllic was Mackenzie and Josh chose EvanR Photography to capture the event and he did so just perfectly, capturing the couple so unbelievably happy in each and every image that as I was going through their album, I have to admit, not only was I smiling alongside them and their guests the entire time, but I got a little teary eyed as well.  It was almost impossible not to, as the love and pure joy were overflowing.  When I asked Mackenzie what was her most memorable moment of the evening, she responded, “It was definitely how intimate the party felt!  We felt like we were truly hanging out with our closest family and friends!”  Bravo Mackenzie and Josh!  Because when it comes down to it, that’s exactly how it should be. intimate beachside wedding intimate beachside wedding intimate beachside wedding wedding dress intimate beachside wedding bride wedding invitations intimate beachside wedding intimate beachside wedding intimate beachside wedding bride and groom wedding decor wedding decor bridesmaids intimate beachside wedding intimate beachside wedding Location: Hawks Cay | Wedding Coordination + Design: Destination Wedding Studio | Photography: EvanR Photography | Floral Design: Flowers by J & J...

A Dreamy Rustic Garden Wedding

When the first photograph of Kelly and Ryan’s dreamy rustic garden wedding came into our inbox we were so happily taken back to an unforgettable night.  A night where there was so much love in the air it was palpable.  Their rustic garden affair took place at one of our favorite destination wedding locations in Key West, Florida, The Casa Marina – A Waldorf Astoria Resort, which in it’s own right is a magical place, but when filled with gorgeous pieces from our sister company, Inspired Rentals, well, let’s just say it felt straight out of a fairytale.  Kelly and Ryan’s wedding was what we as little girls dreamed about.  Take a look for yourself and never forget ‘dreams do come true.’   From the bride: Ryan and I met amongst mutual friends in Fort Lauderdale.  I grew up in Ft Lauderdale and Ryan is from Richmond, Virginia. As our social circles melded, we deepened our friendship through week night rec leagues playing kickball, dodgeball, our love of traveling and other fun events. About two years of being great friends, Ryan finally asked me out on a date.   After about 4 years, he proposed at Morada Bay in Islamorada.  We wanted to keep with the theme and get married in the Keys.  We fell in love with the Casa Marina for it’s amazing exterior views, and warm ball room. The inspiration for the theme of our wedding came from a rustic english garden feel while taking advantage of the tropical location and amazing surroundings. The mixture of rustic & tropics/beach worked so well with the decor and colors complimenting the venue perfectly. We absolutely...
